50 days for East Africa

There are 50 days until 16 October, which is UN World Food Day. In the effort to "Heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty."

The 50/50 project has been set up and aims to raise £1m (about $1.6m USD) through the platform of projects to be built over the next 50 days.

At the core of 50/50 effort is a networked community of people who met each other and came together largely through Twitter in the first instance, rather than meeting in the real world (although that often follows). That's amazing when you think about it - we just couldn't have done this sort of thing before. It's like a new human super-power, and we hope 50/50 can concentrate and focus this power to help save lives in the Horn of Africa. We know we're not going to get it all right first time, so please don't hold back: pitch in and give us your feedback and ideas - even if you can't get involved to run a project directly. £1m is a lot of money, but we believe that a network of networks *can* achieve this and more.

Please join us and give whatever you can: time, money, inspiration, encouragement. All of it helps.

Let's go!
